Ask The Expert: Equipment Storage

QUESTION:

Hi -

I am a FETCO equipment distributor and have a general storage question:

Is it OK to store FETCO equipment in an area that gets quite cold in the winter (though not below freezing) and quite toasty in the summer (though not scorchingly so)? What temperature range is recommended?

Thanks,
Lourdes

ANSWER:

This is an extremely good question. Not one that we get very often, but important.

First let me say that storage of any kind of equipment is a challenge because of potential component degradation. However, back in the real world, storing equipment is a necessary evil. So here is the answer to your question.

As long as the temp does not fall below freezing, you are OK. Warm environments are typically not a problem. It is usually high humidity that can be an issue, but that is typically only if you are dealing with prolonged exposure.

Remember storage always has its issues so rotation of stock is critical to help prevent any degradation based on lack of use.

I hope this answers your question and helps you make a wise business decision.
