Ask The Expert: FETCO 52H-15 Dripping Sporatically
Hello,
I bought a used Fetco CBS-52H-15 brewer refurbished, and it has been working beautifully every day for 4 years...there is a drip coming from both sides sporatically...cannot figure out what prompts it to happen. It drips so much now that we leave a bucket underneath the brewer to catch water that drip overnight, and it fills a mop bucket about halfway. It is brewing the coffee fine.
What do we need to do? Does the dispenser tubes need replacing? Can my contractor husband replace these parts himself?
Thanks for your immediate help.
Julie

Julie,
I am very glad to here that your refurbished unit has worked so well to this point. I am sorry however that you are now experiencing trouble.
I think that you are saying that this problem is not constant since you said it was sporatic. If this is the case than the dispense tubes are probably not it. This erratic problem sounds like a possible leaking fill valve or possibly something real simple like a dirty probe.
If your husband is handy, he can take care of any of these issues.
First, however, we need to verify the cause of the problem. To check if this is the liquid level probe that is causing the problem, please do the following. When you close at the end of the day turn the brewer off at the main power switch. If the brewer is dripping when you do this, drain water out of the hot water faucet until the dripping stops.
If the containers you usually put under the brewer are empty in the morning then it is the liquid level probe. To fix this you will have to take the top off the brewer so turning of the power to the brewer and unplugging it are in order. After you take the top off, then locate the liquid level probe. This will have a green or purple and white wire attached to it. Remove the wire and unscrew the probe. If there is any scale build up on it clean the probe with a green scrubby. Then remove the tank access cover and check inside the tank. If there is scale built up on the side of the tank, scrap the side of the tank with a screw driver. The combination of these two things will allow the liquid level probe read the water again and stop the tank from over filling.
Then you will need to descale the tank. I would recommend using Dezcal from Urnex to do this.
If however the containers are full again in the morning, then it is the fill valve and it needs to be replaced. The fill valve is located in the lower portion of the brewer. Make sure you turn the water supply valve off and turn the brewer off and unplug it. Then remove the old fill valve and install a new one. If you need the part number, please let me know.
If on the other hand the dripping is constant from both side and never really abates, then the dispense tubes need to be replaced. This will require the replacement of the of the dispense tube seals as well. If this is needed, please let me know and I will provide instructions for the replacement.
Please let me know what you find regardless.
