Ask The Expert: Help with CBS-52H-15 not shutting off

QUESTION:

CBS-52H15:   Older unit--This morning at church, turned water on to it and then the power switch on in the center of the unit--water came on and did not shut off!  Cold water started coming out the dispensers even though the fill start handles were UP. I took the top off and checked electrical connections - thought I would then  remove the "water level probe" but after a few turns, decided I needed two wrenches to remove it, so I re-tightened the probe and then tried the cycle again - turned on the water and then the power- this time the water shut off promptly and each time I turned the power on and off it seemed to shut off the water as it should.

Any thoughts? Is my probe crusted up? Bad? Poor ground on the tank? or Maybe the liquid level control (108034) is NG?

thanks - Ken

ANSWER:

This could be a couple of things. One is your first item listed and it is possible that the a couple of turns out loosened some of the scale and exposed bare metal again or it could be that the wire to the probe was not getting good contact and when you remove the wire to remove the probe then put it back on then it had better contact and began working again.

The liquid level control board is more than likely not the cause of this issue. However the circuit that allows the liquid level board to do its job could be part of the problem.

 The wire that goes from the board to the probe (Green and White),
 The wire that goes from the board to the body of the brewer (White and Purple),
 As well as the probe itself and the tank (Scale Build Up)

I hope this is helpful information and you find the root cause of the problem. Let me know how it turns out.
