Ask The Expert Answers a Question on Spray Cutters for the 31AAP

QUESTION:

Hi,

I have a question about an older 31aap, I have heard that there is a different spray head that you can put in to help it extract better.  Is that true and if it is, can I please have the part number?  I have a customer with a dual, and they are using way too much coffee, it isn’t saturating the grounds fully.  The owner mentioned that there may be another avenue.  Thanks for your help and hope all is well at FETCO!

ANSWER:

Hello Crysi,

The CBS-31Aap really only has 2 potential spray cutters (Spray heads). They both have 6 openings for water to flow thru; the only difference between them is that one has a hole in the center and the other does not. If you are getting dry pockets in the center of the basket then you have a spray cutter that does not have the hole in the center and we can address this with the spray cutter we call our 6+1 p/n 1023.00047.00. If however you are seeing that the dry pockets fall outside this area we may have a problem with the spray cutter either being broken or missing.

I hope that this is helpful and if I can be of any further assistance please let me know.

We also have a 31Aap. We use the dual with a half batch brew on the right side. We recently noticed that the grounds were out fully saturated in the half batch brews. We replaced the spray cutter with the new 6+1 and we have not noticed a difference. We believe that the water pouring from the spout is at a higher pressure. The water is hitting the filter on the sides before going to the grounds directly. Can this be a spray issue or is it a spray cutter issue? Any info would be great. Thanks!
