Ask The Expert Compares the TBS-21A Tea/Coffee Brewer To The EXTRACTOR Coffee Brewer Series

QUESTION:

Hello,

I currently have 2 Fetco TBS - 21A units with the Iced Tea / Coffee feature. I am no longer using the units for iced tea, and plan on starting to use these for Hot Coffee Brewing instead.

My question is, is there any advantage to purchasing any of the Extractor Series of coffee brewers instead of using my existing equipment? ie. is there any reason why an Extractor Series brews better coffee?

Thanks for the help.

Brian

ANSWER:

Brian,

This is a very good question as far as a comparison to which brews a better cup of coffee the TBS-21A or the Extractor Series the best way answer this is to talk about flexibility in programming which can have a direct bearing on the quality of the cup.

Within the programming of the TBS-21A you can control volume, how many pulses and brew time.

The Extractor line of brewers offers control of brew volume, brew time, bypass (Not available on all models), pre-wet, and pre-wet delay.

Being able to select the number of pulses on the TBS-21A will help to a degree with dialing in a flavor profile that is pleasing to the palate however its flexibility is limited. The TBS-21A also controls brew time and volume independently which is important but that is the brews limit.

The Extractor Series has greater flexibility with the separation of volume and brew time you can have control of your contact time, in addition the pre-wet settings are an invaluable tools for flavor profiling with a little adjusting here and there you really can dial in the flavor profile you are looking for. The bypass setting allows you to further manipulate contact time thus adding an additional tool to dial in the perfect cup.

I hope this is helpful and you can make use of this information. If you need additional information about the programming please feel free to contact me.

Shane

Thanks for answering this question! I was wondering exactly the same thing and you've cleared things up. I haven't stopped using the iced tea unit, but since the iced tea sales are low half the year I would like to use it with an alternative product suitable for the winter. Thanks!
