Ask The Expert Fields a Question on Clogged Vent Tubes for a CBS-2052e EXTRACTOR Brewer

QUESTION:

I have a Extractor 52e It makes a groaning noise when I hit the brew button and only brews about 20 ounces for the full cycle.
What should I look for?

ANSWER:

Bruce,

Is this happening on both sides?

It is possible that the vent tubes have become clogged which would prevent the tank from being able to breathe restricting the flow of water out of the brewer. There are two vent tubes, one on either side of the water dispensing valves. It could be that coffee has clogged the tube or something is clogging the tank fittings.

The quick and easy way to verify if this is the issue is to remove the tank access cover. To do this you will need a Phillips screw driver and a small crescent wrench. Before being please turn off main breaker to coffee brewer or unplug the cord.

1. Once power is removed from brewer use the Phillips screw driver to remove the top cover (There are actually two top covers a lower and an upper please remove the upper top cover) set upper top cover and screws safely aside.

2. Remove the tank access cover. The tank access cover is a round disc about 5” in diameter located in the center of the tank.

a. Using your crescent wrench, loosen the nut in the center of the cover this nut loosen up a t-bracket that holds the tank access cover in place so do not remove the nut completely just loosen it enough to remove the access cover.

3. Once access cover is removed, then carefully plug brewer back in or turn breaker back on.

4. Start full brew cycle on both sides and measure volume.

5. If volume is good and groaning goes away, clear vent tubes of an obstructions.

If problem persists even with tank access cover off, contact me again and we can take the next step.
