Ask The Expert: Flow Rate Issue with a TBS-21A
QUESTION:
Hi Shane,
My name is Nik and I have a Quiznos Sub in San Francisco. I am using the Fetco TBS-21A strictly for just iced tea now, but I am continuing to run into the error 60, Flow Meter Error. I have replaced the water filters, but I don't think that is the problem. Sometimes the process stops in the middle of making the iced tea and flashes the green light, giving me error 60. Yesterday it wouldn't stop brewing, kept making a "Click, pshhhhhhhh," noise every 3 seconds and started overflowing the iced tea from the brew basket, which is when I unplugged the machine for it to stop.
Is there a flow meter part?
Any advice or suggestions is much appreciated, thank you again for taking the time Shane.
Regards,
Nikhil
ANSWER:
Nik,
The problem that you have can be tied back to a couple of things.
1) As you already know it can be related back to the flow rate which can often be traced back to the water filter. It can also be pressure related. If there is not enough pressure to (Min 20psi) the valve cannot open properly which will trigger the 060 error code.
2) Since this problem is happening when the brewer is actually brewing it could be an erratic pressure issue. This could be related to a back flow preventer or a kinked water line or just a bad fill valve.
You can check your water pressure by putting an apparatus in line with the brews water line. You will need a 3/8" tee with proper fittings to fit you water line in two of the ports on the tee. Along with that you will need a pressure gauge that will go into the remaining port on the tee. You may need a 3/8" to 1/4" bushing to install the pressure gauge since they are usually 1/4".
Setting up this apparatus will enable you to observe operating and static pressure which should give you an idea of what the problem is.
If you need any further help please let me know.
